The Lighter Than Air Ballon Fair at Iowa Western Community College. Balloons by the Nebraska Balloon Club.
I attended the fair on Saturday evening so I could get photos of the launch and the later balloon glow.
A lot of people were setting up chairs on the hill to get a good view.
You can see the balloon teams spread out on the field in the distance.
The Remax team was getting ready to inflate the balloon. They gave rides, remaining tethered to the ground.
By the way, you can see these photos as a full-screen slide show. Look for the "slide show" button in the upper right corner of this page.
The first group of a dozen or so balloons were spread out on the field by their teams. Once finished with this task, the teams waited permission to continue.
There isn't a lot of room in the balloon. The fuel tank takes up quite a bit of space.
The wind was blowing toward the airport and downtown Omaha so only a limited number of baloons were allowed to launch.
All of the teams took part in the "glow" event.
The word to go ahead was passed down the line.
It takes a while to get something this big filled with hot air.
All of the team members took part in keeping the balloons under control during inflation.
The ReMax balloon was first in the air.
This is "Yellowbird".
You can find the names of many of the balloons pictured here on the Nebraska Balloon Club web site under "member balloons".
Teams start the the inflation process by blowing air into the balloon with a large fan.
